LG Plans to ‘Seed the Future’ with Houston High Greenhouse Renovation

Germantown, TN – Leadership Germantown, a local non-profit organization that works to develop well-informed, effective leaders in our community, has announced this year’s class project. Every year, each class works together on a project to enhance the city. This year’s Class of 2018 community project is to revitalize the greenhouse at Houston High School.

“We are very pleased to announce this project,” says Laurie Whitney, the current Leadership Germantown Board of Directors Chairman. “The Class of 2018 will help establish a space for teaching, skill-building and community use with their renovation of the HHS greenhouse.”

The Leadership Germantown Class of 2018 partnered with the Bobby Lanier Farm Park and HHS agriculture teacher, Gretchen Rose, to request a grant from the Germantown Education Foundation, which would authorize funds to repair cracked windows in the greenhouse. Leadership Germantown will continue the renovations and upgrades by working with other community partners to fix the broken irrigation system, upgrade the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system and procure plants, gravel and soil to create a new workspace for Houston High School students.

Leadership Germantown celebrated the Grand Re-Opening of the Houston High School greenhouse with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 22nd at 6:00pm at the high school.
